Worried about your pillow? The truth about hair loss

It’s a classic scene in our shop: a client sits down, looks in the mirror, and asks us fearfully: “Am I going bald?”. Hair loss is undoubtedly the biggest aesthetic concern for men today. However, there’s a lot of misinformation out there that only creates stress (and stress, ironically, does contribute to hair loss). Let’s separate fact from fiction.

Debunking common myths

  • “Washing your hair every day weakens it”: False. Washing your hair daily does not cause it to fall out. In fact, a scalp with excess oil or clogged with dirt can suffocate the follicle. A clean scalp is the foundation of healthy hair.
  • “Wearing a hat or helmet makes you go bald”: False. Hair doesn’t “breathe” from the outside; it gets oxygen through the bloodstream. As long as your hat is clean and doesn’t apply extreme pressure that breaks the hair, you can keep wearing it without fear.

When should you actually worry?

It is vital to differentiate between seasonal shedding and alopecia:

  • Seasonal Shedding: In autumn and spring, it’s normal to lose up to 100 strands of hair a day. It’s a renewal process. As long as the hair that falls out is replaced by new hair, you’re fine.
  • Loss of Density: You should worry when you notice your hair getting thinner (miniaturization), when you start seeing “patchy” spots under the light, or when your hairline is visibly receding.

Expert Advice: Strengthen from within

There are no miracles, but there are good habits:

  1. Scalp Massages: When washing your hair, perform circular massages with your fingertips. This activates microcirculation and delivers more nutrients to the follicle.
  2. Nutrition: Your hair is made of protein (keratin). Make sure you consume enough zinc, iron, and biotin (found in eggs, nuts, and spinach).
